7 POSSIBLE REASONS WHY YOUR SPEED & CONDITIONING IS NOT THE DOMINANT FORCE THAT IT SHOULD BE…
REASON #1:
“You have never followed a professionally designed Annual Training Plan that was created for you to maximize your potential, optimize your recovery & adaptation to training, target your weaknesses, and have you peak for the championships.”
The truth is, it’s very expensive to hire a good Elite level Speed & Conditioning professional to develop for you and coach you through a yearlong training plan. Unfortunately, most coaches are uneducated and simply don’t understand the importance of proper Speed & Conditioning. They merely imitate some “guru’s” cookie cutter plan that they obtained from a colleague or by they’re on searching.
Most coaches lack the detailed idiosyncratic information about “Speed & Conditioning“ (i.e. minimal knowledge & experience with human anatomy & physiology, or any formal training as a human performance coach).
REASON #2:
“You have trusted your team’s head coach as the “expert” on Speed & Conditioning, and followed their training advice to prepare for the season”.
The human body is an extremely complex system with so many interconnected variables; it takes years and years of education and experience to really understand how to properly prepare athletes for high performance.
To regenerate & peak for important competitions, is a “Art & Science”, which EAP has perfected over the past 30+ years working with various calibre of athletes, from over 10 different sports.

REASON #3:
“Your ideas of how to Condition for Speed, using Weights, have been influenced by what you read in a magazine, your friends who are athletic, or other people at the gym (other non-experts)”.
It is natural to want to ask those around us for advice on how to improve in any areas of our life. However, your friends and those big strong guys at the gym that you’ve gotten some training advice from are also NON-experts, and their tips may hinder your development Unless of course, their advice to you is that you seek out who the experts are. However, this usually is not their advice. Furthermore, they’re well intended but misinformed training advice is most likely modeled around what they have done to get some average results for their personal goals, for their body (which is very unique and different from yours).
Most of these friends are probably training like bodybuilders (as this is the dominant training philosophy prevalent in most fitness clubs). This will ultimately make you slow, bulky, immobile and prone to injury.
This Reason this is so common amongst athletes, is due to the fact that there are much more fitness clubs than there are “sport conditioning facilities”. The environment can influence the outcome. Training for Speed requires a different kind of strength.

REASON #4:
“You’re eating habits are atrocious, thus taxing your ability to regenerate, develop speed & strength. And not to mention tissue elasticity”
Most athletes eat terribly. They do not consume foods that will optimize their athletic development.
You’ve probably heard about a few athletes, who explained in an interview, how they finally just started eating well and how it positively influences their athletic development.
It doesn’t surprise us when you consider that even the most skilled athletes in the world still have lots to learn about Sports Nutrition.
There is much room for improvement.
Those athletes, who do not adhere to a sound Sports Nutrition Program, don’t understand the complex systems involved in training and conditioning. These athletes merely compensate for this by superior athletic skill…. until …there competition gets wind of this… there career begins to catch up to them via muscle imbalances, increased injury potential …or a side-line injury.
It could be as simple as making the correct food choices, that could catapult an athletes career.
REASON #5:
“You have never properly assessed and evaluated yourself objectively to determine what you need as an athlete…OR…determining your injury potential”
Without a comprehensive evaluation, it is a minefield to determine where you should be focusing your conditioning. You could be focusing your conditioning on areas that will not give you a high yield in performance. Addressing weaknesses and enhancing strengths, as identified by tests, can give the results you desire in a shorter period of time.
Identifying the Stage of Development you are in, is mission critical to what options you should peruse to obtain proper rapid adaptations to your performance goals. Trying to build on a poor foundation will inhibit your conditioning adaptation and potentially set you up for failure, or worse, injury.

REASON #6:
“You think genetics or “politics” are the reasons why you are not at the level you should be.”
The truth is a vast majority of athletes will never come close have reaching their genetic ceiling, due to improper long-term conditioning & regenerative mythologies.
“Having the best genetics or the natural talent is still not guarantee that you will succeed, sometimes it’s more about the “4-D’s” – Drive, Discipline, Dedication & Direction”.
Every physical quality can be conditioned. Once you have optimized an exhausted your conditioning & regeneration, as well as all the environmental, social factors etc… does your “genetic potential” become a limiting factor.
It is true that some coaches are “politically motivated” why they some athletes, and not others.
“To stand out from the rest, you have to be better than the rest”
It could be that they’ve known that athlete longer than you… Or… maybe you ranked high in the tryouts, but failed to make the grade when the actual competition arrived… Or..… maybe they just didn’t get a fair opportunity to see what you can…Or ..maybe it is your poor attitude & towards situations…Or maybe it is your poor work ethics.
In the end, leave the excuses and focus on leaving no questions in scouts’ and coaches’ minds that you are the right choice, by properly preparing yourself to be an outstanding athlete that they will want on their team.

REASON #7:
“You think the biggest gains in Athleticism come from just Strength & what everyone else is doing (i.e. battling ropes, TRX, and the like).”
Every athlete comes with a unique set of needs. It takes a combination of multiple factors in the right proportion for a particular athlete, to create high performance. The “Integration Training Pyramid” (shown below), represents just a few areas of examination, in order to achieve a high degree of success in sport.
Hence, the biggest gains in Athletics can sometimes come from these 9 areas & in this order:
-
“Character is Destiny” (Fairness, Respect, Self Worth, Integrity, Honor, Ability to take instruction) – what your parents should have taught you & what EAP will uphold
Success leaves clues: Specific Character traits are often the reason for success in most Athletes, and not just their physical prowess
2) Improving Metabolic Function (i.e. Hydration, pH, and cell membrane integrity to name a few)
3) Improving overall static structure via soft tissue reliance & Joint Mobility
4) Adopting a proper Regenerative Program
5) Improving dynamic structure via flexibility & Targeted Strength Conditioning [i.e. not the “glory muscles” (bi’s, tri’s, quads, chest) OR “the big lifts” (squat, bench, dead)]
6) Improving Explosive Power via Throws, Jumps & if need be Specific Olympic Lifts
7) Improving Linear Acceleration via Resisted (i.e. Pushing & Pulling) & Un-Resisted Run
8) Improving Linear Maximum Velocity (i.e. improves “Speed Reserve”) (
